Condition

Some vehicles equipped with a HYDRA-MATIC 4L60-E transmission built before March 7, 1994 (Julian Date 066) may exhibit a delay when shifting from park to reverse and/or shifting from park to drive.

Note:
For GM of Canada application - All Canadian dealers should use the repair procedures outlined in this bulletin. A "S.R.T.A." (Goodwrench) transmission assembly should NOT be used for this repair.

Note:
U.S. - GMC Truck dealers should NOT utilize this bulletin for in-warranty repairs. If this condition is experienced, a Goodwrench Transmission should be used. Refer to Bulletin No. 367106 Automatic Transmission Service Procedure, published December, 1993 for in-warranty repairs. Out of warranty repairs may utilize this bulletin.

Cause

The park to drive concern is caused by a delay in the forward clutch application. The park to reverse concern is caused by a delay in the reverse input clutch application. A delayed engagement is when shifting from park to drive or park to reverse and the vehicle requires more than two (2) seconds to engage reverse or drive.

Correction

To correct the garage shift timing, install one of the packages.

Note:
The transmission spacer plate must also be replaced with an enhanced garage shift package spacer plate, consult your parts catalog for the proper spacer plate part number.

Parts are expected to be available on July 4, 1994.

When performing any other repairs on a 1994 vehicle equipped with a HYDRA-MATIC 4L60-E transmission built before March 7, 1994 (Julian Date 066), the spacer plate identification must be checked to see if the transmission has had a new garage shift package installed to be sure the transmission is being serviced with the proper parts.

See the chart for spacer plate identification.

The new spacer plates must be used with the enhanced garage shift package and the original spacer plates must be used with the original garage shift package. The spacer plates and garage shift packages are calibration sensitive; mixing spacer plates and garage shift packages may cause premature failure. When a garage shift package is changed, the spacer plate must also be changed.
