Transmission Speed Sensor: Description and Operation

Input/Vehicle Speed Sensor:

DESCRIPTION
This device contains a permanent magnet surrounded by a coil of wire producing a magnetic field which is interrupted by rotor teeth cut into the outside diameter of the forward clutch housing. As the serrations interrupt the magnetic field an AC voltage is generated in the circuit. This device is used to provide an input speed signal to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). The PCM uses the input speed sensor signal input to:

- Calculate TCC slip speed.
- Calculate gear ratio.
