Lubrication of Propeller Shaft Double Cardan CV Type U-Joint Centering Ball and Seat

Models:

1994-2002 Chevrolet and GMC S Extended Cab Pickup Models with V6 Engine

1999-2002 Chevrolet and GMC C Extended Cab Pickup Models
(Sierra and Silverado models with service propeller shafts only)
with Automatic Transmission (RPO M30)

This bulletin is being issued to add propeller shaft lubrication information in the Maintenance and Lubrication sub-section of the Service Manual.

The following information, which was also omitted from the Owner's Manual, has been updated within SI2000 for model years 1998-2002. If you are using a paper version of this Service Manual, please make a reference to this bulletin on the affected page.

The propeller shaft double cardan CV type U-joint centering ball and seat must be lubricated at the same time and mileage as that specified for chassis lubrication. Use Chassis Lubricant, P/N 12377985 (in Canada, P/N 88901242) or the equivalent, and a needle-type grease gun adapter, such as Plews/Stant 99-009 or 05-025.





The propeller shaft has two (2) double cardan CV type U-joints that require lubrication. The shaft also has a zerk-type grease fitting for the slip joint.
