INFORMATION

Subject:
1999 Service Manual Delivery on Compact Disc (CD)

Models:
1999 Passenger Cars and Trucks

The General Motors Service Technology Group (GM-STG) will provide Service Manual information on compact disc (CD) for the 1999 model year prior to the distribution of paper manuals. The delivery of the CD prior to paper provides significantly improved quality of Service Manual information. The roll-out of the Electronic Service Information (ESI) will be available on or before the vehicle's regular start of production. The final version of paper manuals will be available 90-120 days after the information appears on the CD. ESI CD 201 will introduce the first 1999 model year vehicles and began distribution in June, 1998. With version 201, the three CD set will increase to four CD's. ESI CD 203 will arrive at the end of August and contain most of the 1999 product line up.

Service Manual updates will occur automatically with each subsequent CD release, reducing the need for Service Manual Update Bulletins. After start of production validation and late engineering changes have occurred, the paper versions will be printed from the ESI data base.

If your dealership is a GM ACCESS site in the United States or Canada, please update the GM ACCESS server with each new ESI CD release. This will provide the most current ESI information, which also eliminates the need to swap CD's from ESI to Techline.

As always, if you have any concerns with the operation of ESI, please contact our Techline Customer Support Center at:
