DTC Descriptor
DTC P2728
- Pressure Control (PC) Solenoid 5 System Performance

DTC P2729
- Pressure Control (PC) Solenoid 5 Control Circuit Low Voltage

DTC P2730
- Pressure Control (PC) Solenoid 5 Control Circuit High Voltage

Diagnostic Fault Information

Circuit/System Description

The clutch pressure control solenoid 5 is part of the control solenoid valve assembly and is not serviced separately. The transmission control module supplies 12 volts to the PC solenoid 5 through the high side driver 1 circuit. The transmission control module controls the clutch pressure control solenoid 5 through the clutch pressure control solenoid 5 control circuit. The normally low clutch pressure control solenoid 5 flows fluid to the actuator feed limit valve when commanded ON and exhausts fluid when commanded OFF. The clutch pressure control solenoid 5 regulates the transmission fluid pressure from the auxiliary transmission fluid pump in order to maintain transmission fluid pressure during electric only and auto-stop modes.

Conditions for Running the DTC

* The engine run time is greater than 5 seconds.
* The vehicle speed is less than 200 km/h (124 mph) for 5 seconds.
* The system voltage is 11-18 V.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

P2728

The transmission control module detects an internal electrical performance malfunction of the clutch pressure control solenoid 5 control circuit when the actual pressure does not equal the commanded pressure for 5 seconds.

P2729

The transmission control module detects an internal low voltage electrical malfunction of the clutch pressure control solenoid 5 control circuit for 500 milliseconds.

P2730

The transmission control module detects an internal high voltage electrical malfunction of the clutch pressure control solenoid 5 control circuit for 500 milliseconds

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

* DTC P2728 is a Type B DTC.
* DTCs P2729 and P2730 are Type A DTCs.
* The transmission control module defaults the transmission to a limited shift pattern utilizing 2 forward gears and reverse based on the default detected.
* The transmission control module commands maximum line pressure.
* The transmission control module freezes transmission adaptive functions.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

* DTC P2728 is a Type B DTC.
* DTCs P2729 and P2730 are Type A DTCs.

Diagnostic Aids

When attempting to set solenoid electrical DTCs, ensure the TCM is warmed up and the transmission is operated long enough to ensure a 3°C (5°F) increase in TCM temperature parameter. This will place the transmission control module in the optimal conditions to test solenoid electrical DTCs.

Circuit/System Verification

1. Engine ON, verify the transmission fluid temperature is between 50-80°C (122-176°F).
2. Operate the vehicle long enough to verify at least a 3°C (5°F) rise in the TCM temperature parameter, then operate the vehicle in Park for 5 seconds.
3. Engine ON, observe the scan tool Clutch PC 5 Sol. CKT Status parameter. The reading should display OK or Indeterminate.

If the reading is not within the specified range, replace the Q8 control solenoid valve assembly.

Repair Instructions

Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification (Verification Tests) after completing the diagnostic procedure.
