Exhaust Manifold Outlet Pipe Replacement - Left Side

Removal Procedure
Warning: Refer to Hot Exhaust System Warning (Hot Exhaust System Warning).

Warning: Refer to Exhaust Service Warning (Service Precautions).


1. Remove the transmission. Refer to Transmission Replacement (Transmission Replacement).
2. Remove the turbocharger exhaust pipe. Refer to Turbocharger Exhaust Pipe Replacement (Service and Repair).
3. Remove the left exhaust manifold outlet pipe heat shield. Refer to Exhaust Pipe Heat Shield Replacement (Exhaust Manifold Outlet Pipe-Left ) (Exhaust Pipe Heat Shield Replacement (Exhaust Manifold Outlet Pipe-Left ))Exhaust Pipe Heat Shield Replacement (Exhaust Manifold Outlet Pipe-Right) (Exhaust Pipe Heat Shield Replacement (Exhaust Manifold Outlet Pipe-Right))Exhaust Pipe Heat Shield Replacement (Turbocharger Exhaust Pipe) ().




4. Remove the exhaust manifold outlet pipe bolts in the proper sequence.




5. Remove the exhaust manifold outlet pipe bolts (1) and replace gaskets (2) with NEW gaskets.
6. Remove the exhaust manifold outlet pipe (3).

Installation Procedure




1. Install a NEW gasket to the left exhaust manifold with the tab (1) facing downward.
2. Install a NEW gasket to the turbocharger with the tab (2) facing inward.




3. Position the exhaust manifold outlet pipe (3).Loosely install the turbocharger and the exhaust manifold bolts (1).





Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

4. Tighten the exhaust manifold outlet pipe bolts in the sequence shown to 53 Nm (39 lb ft).
5. Install the left exhaust manifold outlet pipe heat shield. Refer to Exhaust Pipe Heat Shield Replacement (Exhaust Manifold Outlet Pipe-Left ) (Exhaust Pipe Heat Shield Replacement (Exhaust Manifold Outlet Pipe-Left ))Exhaust Pipe Heat Shield Replacement (Exhaust Manifold Outlet Pipe-Right) (Exhaust Pipe Heat Shield Replacement (Exhaust Manifold Outlet Pipe-Right))Exhaust Pipe Heat Shield Replacement (Turbocharger Exhaust Pipe) ()
6. Install the turbocharger exhaust pipe. Refer to Turbocharger Exhaust Pipe Replacement (Service and Repair).
7. Install the transmission. Refer to Transmission Replacement (Transmission Replacement)
8. Start the engine and check for exhaust leaks.
