Timing Cover - Removal







REMOVAL

FRONT COVER-UPPER





1. Remove upper torque strut (4) attaching bolts and set strut asideTorque Strut - Removal.




2. Turbocharger equipped vehicles:
- Discharge and evacuate air conditioning system.
- Disconnect air conditioning lines at junction block (1) near upper timing belt cover.





3. Remove upper timing belt cover fasteners (1) and remove cover.

FRONT COVER-LOWER





1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
2. Raise vehicle on hoist. Remove right front wheel.
3. Remove the right splash shield (3).




4. Remove accessory drive belts.
5. Remove crankshaft damperVibration Damper - Removal.




6. Remove the lower torque strut (5)Torque Strut - Removal.




7. Disconnect catalytic converter (2) from manifold.
8. Disconnect A/C pressure switch at rear of compressor housing.
9. Lower vehicle and support engine with a jack.




10. Discharge A/C system and disconnect A/C lines at coupling block (1).




11. Remove upper torque strut (4)Torque Strut - Removal.
12. Remove screw attaching ground strap to strut bracket.
13. Remove upper torque strut bracket (3) from strut tower.
14. Remove upper radiator closure panel Removal.




15. Remove power steering pump and bracket. Set pump aside. Do not disconnect lines from pump.
16. With engine properly supported, remove right engine mount through bolt (1).




17. Raise engine with jack until engine support bracket bolts (2) are accessible.
18. Remove engine support bracket (1).




19. Remove timing belt cover fasteners (1,2) and remove cover.

REAR COVER





1. Remove front timing belt covers.
2. Remove timing belt Timing Belt & Sprockets - Removal.
3. Remove timing belt idler pulley (1).




4. Remove camshaft sprockets. Use Camshaft Sprocket Holder 6847 (1) to hold camshaft sprockets while removing the sprocket bolts.




5. Remove rear timing belt cover fasteners (1,2) and remove cover from engine.
