Instrument Panel Center and Right Side 23-19-40-00

Accelerate engine until noise appears or road test vehicle. By touching panel components, isolate the problem to the instrument panel center, glove box, or console.

1. I/Panel Center - If noise is eliminated by touching a bezel, check for loose or missing screws and clips. Add foam, where needed, to isolate bezel. Reach behind panel and touch wiring and ducting. Pull away from contact and isolate with foam or tape or tighten ducts. Check panel attachment screws and bracketry for undertorque. Press on A/C unit to reduce or eliminate noise. If noise is not repaired, refer to other sections.

2. Glove Box Area - With noise reproduced, open glove box door. If noise stops, check for loose latch mounting screws or adjust striker to tighten door fit, check glove box lamp switch. If noise does not stop with door open, check for wiring or antenna cable contact to glove box bin or ducting. Isolate wire with foam. Refer to other sections if noise is not repaired.

3. Console Area - With noise reproduced, touch console components to find problem. (If noise cannot be found, go to Step 4.) Check for loose bezel and other screws and proper installation of side panels. If side panels cause noise, look for points of contact and isolate with foam. If cupholder rattles when closed, check for foam on back of slider stop. If missing, add a small piece of foam.

4. Pull bezel and check for wires rattling. Move shift lever on manual transaxle through several gears. Refer to linkage repair procedure if noise stops or changes in volume. If vehicle has an automatic transaxle, check for rattling components and cable contact to floor or transaxle. If noise is not found, refer to "Underhood" section.
