Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Toe Adjustment

FRONT

On Colt models, remove outer bellows clip from tie rod before adjusting toe. After completing adjustment, reinstall clamp.
The amount of toe-in of the left front wheel is reduced by turning the tie rod turnbuckle toward the front of the car and the amount of toe-in on the right front wheel is reduced by turning it toward the rear of the the car. After adjustment, the difference in length between the two tie rods should not exceed 0.2 inch (5 mm).

REAR

Toe-in is adjusted by rotating the lower control arm mounting bolts as follows:
1. Loosen locknut while holding mounting bolt.
2. Rotate mounting bolts until toe is within specifications. Movement of 1 graduation, will change toe by approximately 0.08 inch (2 mm). Rotate left and right mounting bolts equally.
3. Tighten locknut and recheck setting.
4. Repeat adjustment until toe setting is equal for both wheels and total toe is within specifications.
