Subject: Customer Satisfaction Notification #410 -- Convertible Top Correction

Models: 1987 Chrysler LeBaron Convertible -- Vehicle Build Date Month-Day-Hour (MDH) 06-15-07 Through 06-26-19

Reference: Dealer E-Mail messages of June 10, 1987 and June 12, 1987 on 1987 "J" Body Convertible Top Damage

1987 Chrysler LeBaron convertibles built during the period shown above are already equipped with revised headliners. However, additional changes are required to avoid possible convertible top damage in the area of the #3 top bow. The linkage and components can bind during operation, inhibiting top folding and storage. As a result, the top fabric can be pinched and damaged in the folding linkage mechanism.

To correct the problem, the following actions are required:

- Trim silencer pads below the top storage area cover (slingwell).

- Install assist springs on the #3 top bow.

- Inspect the compact spare tire for proper position and tightness and correct if needed.

Details of this service action are explained in the following sections. As an additional service aid, a videotape has been made to demonstrate the service procedure. This feature is included in the September, 1987 M.T.S.C. program.

Important: ^ Some of the involved cars are likely to be in dealer stock. Be sure to complete the service on these cars before retail delivery.

^ Most of the involved cars also require revised drivers' floor mats to be installed for Safety Recall #406. (See separate dealer notification for Recall #406).
