Safety Recall, Customer Satisfaction Notification

SAFETY RECALL -- CONVERTIBLE ACCESSORY FLOOR MAT -- DRIVER'S SIDE

Dear Chrysler Motors Vehicle Owner:

This notice is sent to in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.

Chrysler Motors has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in some 1987 model Chrysler LeBaron Convertible passenger cars. The defect is caused by interference of the left front (driver's) accessory floor mat with the accelerator pedal.

Your car, whose Vehicle Identification Number is shown on the enclosed forms, is one of the affected vehicles. For this reason we ask that you arrange for service to correct the condition without delay. This service will be provided free of charge.

The condition may occur if the floor mat becomes shifted out of position. The mat can catch on the accelerator pedal so that the engine will not return to idle when your foot is lifted from the pedal. When the brakes are applied, it may take a greater distance to stop the car. In some cases this could result in an accident without prior warning.

To prevent the mat from contacting the pedal, the shape of the mat has been changed to provide greater clearance.

Your dealer will replace the mats in your car. It will take only a few minutes. To obtain this free service:

^ Contact your dealer as soon as possible to schedule an appointment. We ask that you call the dealer who sold you the car if convenient. However, if necessary, the service can be performed by any Chrysler-Plymouth or Dodge dealer.

^ Take the enclosed claim form for this recall with you at the time of your appointment and give it to your dealer. The form is for use by the dealer and by Chrysler to record completion of the service.

If you have any problem obtaining the needed service, please contact the Chrysler Zone Office in your area. (It is listed under "Service Assistance" in your Operator Manual.) A Zone representative will arrange for prompt servicing of your car.

CUSTOMER SATISFACTION NOTIFICATION --
CONVERTIBLE TOP CORRECTION WITH HEADLINER REPLACEMENT

Dear Chrysler Motors Vehicle Owner:

The satisfaction of our customers is very important to Chrysler. Because of this, we are offering a special service without charge to owners of certain 1987 Chrysler LeBaron Convertibles. The service is needed to prevent the folding top linkage from binding and pinching the top fabric.

Your car, whose Vehicle Identification Number is shown on the enclosed form, is one of the affected vehicles. The parts needed for its repair are now available. We ask that you arrange for this free service without delay.

To correct the condition, your dealer will install a revised inside headliner for the convertible top. In addition, the top linkage and storage areas will be modified, and the spare tire position and tightness will be inspected and corrected if necessary.

Important: Each time that you remove the spare tire and reinstall it in the trunk, be careful to push it all the way forward before tightening the wing nut which holds it in position. Also, be sure that the wing nut is as tight as possible. This is necessary to avoid possible interference between the tire and the convertible top when it is lowered.

The service will take about 1-1/2 hours to complete. To arrange for these improvements:

^ Contact your dealer as soon as possible to schedule an appointment. We ask that you call the dealer who sold you the car if convenient. However, if necessary, the service can be performed by any Chrysler-Plymouth or Dodge dealer.
