Technician Safety Information

Before testing the ignition system please read the following precautions and preparations.

WARNING: BEFORE TESTING VEHICLE, TURN THE IGNITION SWITCH TO OFF OR LOCK POSITION, APPLY PARKING BRAKE AND PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK OR NEUTRAL.

Safety goggles should be worn at all times.

The 12 volt battery must be fully charged for the tester to accurately analyze the ignition system.

Do not touch transistor on control unit when the ignition switch is on, as it will cause an electrical shock.

The ignition must be OFF when removing or installing the harness connector to the control unit.

If distributer is removed and engine is cranked it will be necessary to realign the number 1 piston and the distributor shaft properly.

When testing with probes, always use proper adapters. Puncturing the spark plug cables can cause high resistance or permit a secondary current to arc to ground.

Do not leave spark plug disconnected any longer than necessary while testing on vehicles with catalytic converters or heat damage to catalytic converter will occur. Time is not to exceed 10 minutes.
