SYMPTOM/CONDITION

Engine oil leaking out the bottom of the air cleaner housing. This condition may be the result of oil pullover through the cylinder head cover baffle.


DIAGNOSIS

Remove the air cleaner cover. Inspect the air cleaner filter and the crankcase vent filter for oil saturation. If the filters are oil saturated, perform the following repair procedure.


PARTS REQUIRED

1 Filter, Air Cleaner PN 4342801
1 Filter, Crankcase Vent PN 4306914
1 Gasket, Cylinder Head Cover PN 4343882


REPAIR PROCEDURE

This repair involves removing the cylinder head cover and sealing the cylinder head cover baffle.

NOTE: THE SEALANT USED IN THIS REPAIR WILL REQUIRE TWO TO THREE HOURS CURE TIME BEFORE THE ENGINE CAN BE STARTED.
1. Remove the cylinder head cover as outlined in the appropriate service manual.

2. Remove the two bolts located at the rear (right side) of the cylinder head cover. These bolts retain the baffle to the cylinder head cover.

3. Carefully pry the baffle from the cylinder head cover.

NOTE: USE CARE WHEN PRYING THE BAFFLE LOOSE FROM THE OLD SEALANT. EXCESSIVE FORCE MAY DAMAGE, THE BAFFLE.

4. Clean all the old sealant off the baffle and cylinder head cover.

5. Apply the silicone rubber adhesive sealant on the baffle and cylinder head cover as shown in Figure 1.
6. Install the baffle. Tighten the baffle retaining bolts to 105 in.lbs. (12 N-m)

7. Install the cylinder head cover as outlined in the appropriate service manual.

8. Remove the crankcase vent to air cleaner tube assembly, PCV valve and intake manifold hose assembly, Figure 2. Discard the old air cleaner filter and crankcase vent filter. Clean any oil from air cleaner housing and PCV system. Install the new air cleaner and crankcase vent filters.

9. Install the clean PCV components.

10. Allow two to three hours for the sealant to cure before starting engine.
