NOTE: THIS BULLETIN APPLIES ONLY TO VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH THE FOLLOWING ENGINE CONTROLLERS; PNs 5266243, 5266245, 5266251, AND 5266253.
SYMPTOM/CONDITION
The instrument panel "Check Engine" lamp comes on and fault message "MAP Pneumatic Change" is set into the vehicle's diagnostic system. This condition usually occurs in long decel situations especially in a high altitude area. No other symptoms are present.
DIAGNOSIS
Using the DRB II tester and the 1990 Powertrain Diagnostic Manual for 3.3L EFI (Publication # 81-699-0015), verify that all vehicle systems are functioning as designed. If performing diagnostic test DR-2 does not verify a problem with the MAP sensor, proceed with the following repair.

REPAIR PROCEDURE
This repair involves the replacement of the original engine controller with a revised unit.
1. Replace the engine controller (SBEC) with the appropriate unit as called out in PARTS REQUIRED.

2. Type the required information on the Authorized Modification Label, as illustrated in Figure 1, and attach near the VECI label.
