Visual Inspection

A visual inspection for loose, disconnected, damaged, or misrouted wires and/or hoses should be made prior to diagnosing or servicing the fuel injection system. A thorough visual inspection will help find these faults and save unnecessary testing and diagnostic time.

VISUAL INSPECTION

Ignition Coil Primary Connection:





1. Check the Direct Ignition System coil electrical connections and secondary cable routing.

Camshaft Sensor Connection:





2. Check the cam sensor electrical connection.
3. Check the engine temperature sensor electrical connection.

Coolant Temperature Sensor:





4. Check the coolant temperature sensor electrical connections.
5. Check the quick connect fuel fittings for proper connections.

Fuel Pressure Regulator:





6. Check the vacuum line condition and connection at the fuel pressure regulator.

Oil Pressure Sending Unit:





7. Check the oil pressure sending unit electrical connection.

Purge Solenoid:





8. Check the canister purge solenoid electrical wiring and vacuum line condition and connections.

Vapor Canister:





9. Check the hose connections at the vapor canister.
10. Check the fuel injector electrical connections at each injector.
11. Check the fuel injection and engine harness to main harness electrical connections.

Throttle Body Connections:





12. Check the electrical and vacuum connections at the throttle body.
13. Check the electrical and vacuum connections and condition at the Electric EGR Transducer (EET) and the rest of the EGR system.

Automatic Transmission Electrical Connections:





14. Check the neutral safety switch electrical connection.
15. Check the automatic transmission electrical connections.

Electrical And Vacuum Connections:





16. Check the charge temperature sensor electrical connection.
17. Check the EGR tube leading to the intake and exhaust manifold condition and connections.
18. Check the vacuum line condition and connections at the intake manifold.
19. Check the PCV hose condition and connections.

Electrical Connections:





20. Check the crankshaft position sensor electrical connections.
21. Check the knock sensor electrical connection.
22. Check the distance sensor electrical connection.

MAP Sensor, Oxygen Sensor, And Ground Strap:





23. Check the Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor electrical connections.
24. Check the oxygen sensor electrical connection.
25. Check the engine ground strap between the intake manifold and the dash for proper condition and connections.
26. Check the alternator wiring connections and belt condition.

Diagnostic Connector:





27. Check the 60 way engine controller connector for proper seating.

Relay Location/Identification:





28. Check all relay electrical connections and ensure they are fully seated.
29. Check battery terminal connections for cleanliness and tightness.
30. Check the power brake booster hose connections and condition (without anti-lock braking system).
31. Check the speed control vacuum connections.
32. Check the fuel pump fuel and electrical connections.
