On 1988-89 models, this system is a computer controlled monitor system, which displays messages on an overhead console. When the vehicle is started and no faults are present, the display will indicate ``MONITORED SYSTEMS OK". If the monitor detects a fault, a tone will be sounded and component will be noted on the display.

On 1990-92 models, the Electronic Vehicle Information Center is a computer controlled warning system which monitors various sensors used on the vehicle. The system supplements the warning indicators in the instrument cluster. When a warning message has been activated, a tone will sound to attract the driver's attention. The warning message will then be displayed on the overhead console, until the condition has been corrected or a new display function is called up. A tone will announce each new warning condition. The warning messages are as follows:

CHECK ENGINE OIL LEVEL--When this message is displayed, check engine oil and adjust to proper level. The message will be reset after the ignition switch has been cycled to the Off position.

CHECK TRANS--When this message is displayed, a problem in the automatic transaxle is present. After completing automatic transaxle service, the message will be reset after the ignition switch has been cycled to the Off position.

COOLANT LEVEL LOW--When this message is displayed, bring coolant to proper level. The message will be reset after the ignition switch has been cycled to the Off position.

DISC BRAKE PADS WORN--When this message is displayed, the disc brake pads should be inspected and replaced as necessary. After completing service, the message will be reset after the ignition switch has been cycled to the Off position.

DRIVER, PASSENGER, LEFT REAR, RIGHT REAR DOOR OR TRUNK AJAR--Close door to cancel message.

ENGINE TEMPERATURE CRITICAL--This message will be indicated when an engine overheating condition is encountered. After repairing cause of engine overheating condition, the message will be automatically cancelled.

EXTERIOR LAMPS ON--This message will appear when the ignition switch is in Off, Lock or Accessory, the driver's door is open and the light switch is in the On position. This message will be cancelled when light switch is placed in the Off position or the door is closed.

HEADLAMP, BRAKE OR TAIL LAMP OUT--The display will be illuminated when brake is applied or light switch is in the On position and a burned out lamp bulb is present. To reset message, replace burned out bulb, then actuate lamp circuit.

KEY IN IGNITION--This message will appear when the ignition switch is in the Off, Lock or Accessory position and the driver's door is open. This message will be cancelled when the keys are removed or the door is closed.

LOW BRAKE FLUID--When this message is displayed, bring brake to proper level. The message will be reset after the ignition switch has been cycled to the Off position.

LOW FUEL LEVEL--When this message is displayed, add fuel to vehicle. The message will be reset after the ignition switch has been cycled to the Off position.

LOW OIL PRESSURE--This message will be displayed when a low engine oil pressure condition exist. If message is encountered with vehicle operating at idle speed, increase engine RPM. If message remains or if message is encountered while operating vehicle, the engine lubricating system should be checked and service immediately. After engine lubricating system has been serviced, the message will be automatically cancelled.

SERVICE REMINDER--This message will be indicated at 7,500 mile or 12 month intervals to indicate that required service is to be performed. After performing the required service, with the Service Reminder message displayed, depress the Vehicle Electronic Information Center Reset button.

TURN SIGNAL ON--This message will be indicated when the turn is on and vehicle has traveled a distance over 1/2 mile at a speed above 15 MPH. The message will be reset when the turn signal has been placed in the Off position.

VOLTAGE IMPROPER--When this message is displayed, a problem in the charging or electrical system exist. After servicing, the message will be reset after the ignition switch has been cycled to the Off position.

WASHER FLUID LOW--When this message is displayed, bring washer fluid to proper level. The message will be reset after the ignition switch has been cycled to the Off position.
