SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
A slight creaking sound coming from the upper end of the steering column while turning the steering wheel from side to side.
NOTE: IF THE NOISE IS COMING FROM THE LOWER END OF THE STEERING COLUMN REFER TO TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 19-01-91.
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
This repair involves removal of material from the upper half of the steering column shroud.
1. With the ignition key in the OFF position, disconnect the battery.
2. Remove the upper steering column shroud, Figure 1, use appropriate Service Manual for removal procedures.
3. Using the template, Figure 2, remove material from shroud using a file or die grinder.
4. Install shroud after modification.
5. Connect negative battery cable.
