Disassembly and Assembly

1. Remove transaxle assembly as described in Automatic Transmission/Service and Repair/Transaxle Replacement. Removal and Replacement
2. Remove valve body as described in Automatic Transmission/Valve Body/Service and Repair.
3. Measuring input shaft end play before disassembly will usually indicate when a thrust washer change is required. The thrust washer is located between input and output shafts.

Measure Input Shaft End Play:




4. Attach a dial indicator to the transaxle bell housing, with its plunger seated against the end of the input shaft. Move input shaft in and out to obtain end play reading. End play should be 0.19 to 1.50 mm (0.008 to 0.060 inch). Record indicator reading for reference when reassembling the transaxle.

CAUTION: The input shaft for transaxles without a torque converter clutch, has two seal rings. The input shaft for a transaxle with a torque converter clutch, has three seal rings.

5. All subassemblies should be inspected and/or reconditioned when transaxle recondition is performed.

6. When reassembling, reverse the above procedure.
