Removal

1. Disconnect battery.
2. Mark hood position at hinges and remove hood.
3. Remove wiper motor and linkage module. Refer to Wiper and Washer System for procedure.
4. Drain cooling system.
5. Disconnect all electrical connectors.
6. Remove coolant hoses from radiator and engine.
7. Remove radiator and fan assembly. Refer to Cooling System for procedure.
8. Release fuel pressure, disconnect fuel lines and accelerator cable. Refer to Powertrain Management.
9. Remove air cleaner assembly.
10. Hoist vehicle.
11. Drain engine oil.
12. Remove air conditioning compressor mounting bolts and set compressor aside.
13. Disconnect exhaust pipes at manifolds.
14. Remove transmission inspection cover and mark flex plate to torque converter position.
15. Remove bolts holding torque converter to flex plate and attach C-clamp on bottom of converter housing to prevent torque converter from coming out.
16. Remove power steering pump mounting bolts and set pump aside.
17. Remove two lower transmission to block bolts.
18. Remove starter.
19. Lower vehicle and disconnect vacuum lines and ground strap.
20. Insert floor jack with small block of wood under transmission pan to support transmission.

Engine Lifting Points:




21. Attach lifting hoist to the front of engine and to the rear exhaust manifolds.
22. Remove upper transmission case to block bolts.
23. Hoist engine from engine compartment.
