Headlamp Pattern Improvement

MODELS:
1995 - 1996 (JA) Breeze/Cirrus/Stratus

DISCUSSION:
A new headlamp with an improved beam pattern has been developed.

PARTS REQUIRED:

1 4630872 Right Headlamp
1 4630873 Left Headlamp

NOTE:
THE NEW HEADLAMP MODULES HAVE A DIFFERENT EXTERNAL APPEARANCE AS WELL AS BEAM PATTERN AND SHOULD BE REPLACED AS PAIRS ONLY WHEN DOING INITIAL SERVICE.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

This bulletin involves replacing both headlamps with revised parts.

1. Release hood latch and open hood.

2. Remove screws (2) holding headlamp module to radiator closure panel.

3. Separate headlamp module from radiator closure panel.

4. Disengage wire connector from back of headlamp bulb.

NOTE:
DO NOT TOUCH BULB WITH YOUR FINGERS. OIL CONTAMINATION WILL SEVERELY SHORTEN BULB LIFE. IF THE BULB COMES IN CONTACT WITH ANY OILY SURFACE, CLEAN THE BULB WITH RUBBING ALCOHOL.

5. Rotate park lamp socket counterclockwise one quarter turn.

6. Pull socket from back of lamp.

7. Separate headlamp module from vehicle.

8. Reverse procedure to install revised headlamp module.

9. Repeat steps 2 thru 8 on other side of vehicle.

10. Verify headlamp and side marker park, and turn signal lamp operation.





11. Adjust headlamp alignment by rotating alignment screws to achieve the LOW BEAM HOT SPOT PATTERN indicated in the figure.

A properly aimed low beam headlamp will project the center of the low beam hot spot on the alignment screen 8 in. (203 mm) below the horizontal centerline and 5 in. (127 mm) right of vertical centerline. A properly aimed right low beam headlamp will project the center of the low beam hot spot on the alignment screen 7 in. (178 mm) below the horizontal centerline and 9 in. (229 mm) right of vertical centerline.
