Ignition Switch: Description and Operation

CIRCUIT OPERATION
When the ignition switch is in the START/RUN position, it connects circuit A1 from the Power Distribution Center (PDC) to circuit A21 through the ignition switch. A 20 Amp fuse in cavity A of the PDC protects circuits A1 and A21. Circuit A1 is spliced and provides power to the fuel pump relay and the engine starter motor relay.

The A21 circuit connects from the ignition switch to the junction block and splices to provide power to the F12 and F18 circuits.

The F12 circuit is protected by a 10 Amp fuse located in cavity 15 of the junction block. Circuit F12 is spliced and connects to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM), fuel pump relay, and the Automatic Shutdown (ASD) relay coil side.

The F18 circuit is protected by a 10 Amp fuse located in cavity 20 of the junction block. Circuit F18 is spliced and provides power to the manifold tuning solenoid, exhaust gas recirculation solenoid, A/C compressor clutch relay, EVAP/Purge solenoid, and the radiator fan relays.
