Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Transaxle Cooler and Line Flushing

If there has been a mechanical failure within the torque converter or in the transaxle itself, the fluid becomes contaminated and circulates throughout the hydraulic system. This includes the cooler for the transaxle inside the radiator and/or external cooler. The cooler and the lines connecting the cooler to the transaxle must be flushed before being connected to the newly repaired or replaced torque converter or transaxle. If the system is not flushed, the new components will become contaminated with the old fluid. The proper method for flushing is reverse flushing the system. Refer to the proper Instructions for the correct reverse flushing procedure.

NOTE: USE ONLY MOPAR ATF+4 TRANSMISSION FLUID TYPE 9602. USE OF DEXTRON II OR DEXTRON III MAY CAUSE CLUTCH SHUDDER.
