Crankshaft Seal Retainer: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
1. Remove transaxle from vehicle.
2. Remove flex plate.
3. Remove oil pan.

4. Remove bolts attaching oil seal retainer (Fig. 94).
5. Remove oil seal from retainer.

INSTALLATION

1. Install oil seal in housing with Special Tool MD-998718 (Fig. 95).

2. Apply Mopar Engine RTV GEN II or equivalent to oil seal housing (Fig. 96).
3. Apply light coating of engine oil to the entire circumference of oil seal lip.
4. Install seal assembly on cylinder block and tighten bolts to 12 Nm (104 in. lbs.).
5. Install oil pan.
6. Install flex plate. Apply Mopar Lock & Seal Adhesive to bolt threads and tighten to 95 Nm (70 ft. lbs.).
7. Install transaxle.
