Valve Cover: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
CYLINDER HEAD COVER-FRONT
1. Remove air inlet resonator.
2. Remove dipstick tube.
3. Disconnect and relocate secondary ignition wires.
4. Remove vacuum connections.

5. Remove cylinder head cover screws and remove cover (Fig. 55).

CYLINDER HEAD COVER-REAR
1. Disconnect negative cable from battery.
2. Remove wiper unit.
3. Remove accessory drive belt.
4. Disconnect generator wiring and remove generator.
5. Disconnect and relocate secondary ignition wires.
6. Remove cylinder head cover screws and remove cover (Fig. 55).

INSTALLATION
CYLINDER HEAD COVER-FRONT
1. Clean cylinder head and cover sealing surfaces. Inspect gasket and replace as necessary.
2. Apply Mopar Engine RTV GEN II to cover ends (Fig. 55).
3. Install cover. Tighten cover fasteners to 10 Nm (88 in. lbs.).
4. Connect vacuum connections.
5. Connect secondary ignition wires.
6. Install dipstick tube.
7. Install air inlet resonator.

CYLINDER HEAD COVER-REAR
1. Clean cylinder head and cover sealing surfaces. Inspect gasket and replace as necessary.
2. Apply Mopar Engine RTV GEN II to cover ends (Fig. 55).
3. Install cover. Tighten cover fasteners to 10 Nm (88 in. lbs.).
4. Connect secondary ignition wires.
5. Install generator and connect wiring.
6. Install accessory drive belt.
7. Install wiper unit.
8. Connect negative cable to battery.
