Blower Motor Resistor: Service and Repair

WARNING: IF THE BLOWER MOTOR WAS TURNED ON, WAIT FIVE MINUTES TO ALLOW THE BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR TO COOL. IF THE RESISTOR WIRES ARE NOT ALLOWED TO COOL, THEY CAN BURN YOUR FINGERS.

CAUTION: Do not operate the blower motor with the blower motor resistor removed.

REMOVAL
1. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.
2. Remove the windshield wiper arms from the wiper pivots near the base of the windshield. Refer to Windshield Wiper and Washers for the proper procedures.
3. Remove the cowl cover from the top of the cowl plenum near the base of the windshield. Refer to Body for the proper procedures.

4. Reach into the right side of the cowl plenum area to access and disconnect the headlamp and dash wire harness connector from the blower motor resistor connector receptacle.
5. Disengage the blower motor resistor from the mounting hole in the dash panel. The resistor is retained by a snap fit.
6. Remove the blower motor resistor from the cowl plenum area.

INSTALLATION
1. Position the blower motor resistor into the right side of the cowl plenum area.
2. Insert the blower motor resistor into the mounting hole in the dash panel.
3. Press firmly and evenly on the blower motor resistor connector receptacle until the resistor snaps into place.
4. Reconnect the headlamp and dash wire harness connector to the blower motor resistor connector receptacle.
5. Reinstall the cowl cover onto the top of the cowl plenum near the base of the windshield. Refer to Body for the proper procedures.
6. Reinstall the windshield wiper arms onto the wiper pivots near the base of the windshield. Refer to Windshield Wiper and Washers for the proper procedures.
7. Reconnect the battery negative cable.
