Heater Core Replacement - LHD
HEATER CORE - LHD
WARNING:
- ON VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH AIRBAGS. FAILURE TO TAKE THE PROPER PRE-CAUTIONS COULD RESULT IN ACCIDENTAL AIR-BAG DEPLOYMENT AND POSSIBLE PERSONAL INJURY.
- DO NOT OPEN THE RADIATOR DRAIN COCK OR DISCONNECT COOLANT HOSES WHEN THE SYSTEM IS HOT AND UNDER PRESSURE. SERIOUS BURNS FROM COOLANT CAN OCCUR.
REMOVAL
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Drain the cooling system. Refer to: "Engine, Cooling and Exhaust : Cooling System : Service and Repair" Service and Repair
3. Evacuate the refrigerant system. Refer to: "Heating and Air Conditioning : Service and Repair" Service and Repair
4. Remove the instrument panel. Refer to: Body and Frame, Interior Trim, Dashboard/Instrument Panel, Service and Repair, Instrument Panel Service Procedures, Instrument Panel Assembly Procedures, Instrument Panel Assembly
5. Remove the refrigerant lines from the evaporator connections.

6. Remove the heater core coolant supply hoses from the heater core.
7. Working from inside the engine compartment, remove the A/C-heater housing retaining fasteners from the bulk head.
8. Remove the A/C-heater housing drain tube. Remove the spring clip from the A/C-heater housing and body attachement point.
9. Remove the A/C-heater housing retainer bolts.
10. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the A/C-heater housing.
11. Remove the A/C-heater housing from the vehicle and place the assembly on a bench.
12. Dissemble the heater core.
13. Remove the heater core from the housing.
INSTALLATION
1. Install heater core into HVAC housing.
2. Assemble the HVAC housing.
3. Take the HVAC housing from the work bench and place into vehicle.
4. Install HVAC housing to vehicle.
5. Install underhood HVAC housing drain tube to housing and install spring retainer clip.
6. Install electrical connectors to HVAC housing.
7. Install heater supply hoses to heater core connections.
8. Install refrigerant lines to the evaporator.
9. Install the instrument panel assembly. Refer to: Body and Frame, Interior Trim, Dashboard/Instrument Panel, Service and Repair, Instrument Panel Service Procedures, Instrument Panel Assembly Procedures, Instrument Panel Assembly
10. Evacuate the refrigerant system. Refer to: "Heating and Air Conditioning : Service and Repair" Service and Repair
11. Charge the refrigerant system.
12. Refill the cooling system. Refer to: "Engine, Cooling and Exhaust : Cooling System : Service and Repair" Service and Repair
13. Connect the battery negative cable.
