Radiator: Service and Repair

REMOVAL





1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the radiator fan.
3. Drain the cooling system.
4. Remove the air cleaner inlet tubes.
5. Disconnect the upper radiator hose (4).
6. Disconnect the lower radiator hose (7) and coolant recovery reservoir hose (5).
7. Disconnect the transmission cooler lines and fit together with coupler (automatic transmission only).





8. Remove the radiator hold down clamps (1).





9. Tilt the radiator forward and remove the A/C condenser to the radiator retaining bolts (1).
10. Remove the radiator from the vehicle.


CLEANING
Clean radiator fins with the engine cold, apply cold water and compressed air to the back (engine side) of the radiator to flush the radiator of debris.


INSPECTION
The radiator cooling fins should be checked for damage or deterioration. Inspect cooling fins to make sure they are not bent or crushed, these areas result in reduced heat exchange causing the cooling system to operate at higher temperatures. Inspect the plastic end tanks for cracks, damage or leaks.


INSTALLATION





1. Position the radiator in vehicle.
2. Connect the lower radiator hose (7) and the coolant recovery reservoir hose (5).
3. Connect the upper radiator hose (4).
4. Install the A/C condenser to the radiator retaining bolts. Tighten the bolts to 10 Nm (89 in. lbs.).
5. Install the radiator retaining clamps (1).





6. Install the radiator fan.
7. Connect the transmission cooler lines (automatic transmission only).
8. Install the air inlet tubes.
9. Fill the cooling system.
10. Connect the negative battery cable.
11. Start the engine and check for coolant leaks.
12. Recheck the coolant level.
