Impact Sensor: Service and Repair
REMOVAL
1. Before attempting any service procedures refer to the warnings in the beginning of this section.
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Wait two minutes for the system capacitor to discharge before further service.
3. Remove the ignition key.
4. Remove the door sill trim plate by pulling straight up on the sill plate to release it from the clips below.
5. Remove the plastic cover (3) on the front of the seat track. Then remove the front seat bolts (2).
6. Remove the rear seat bolts (1).
7. Remove the seat belt bolt (2) from the vehicle then remove the seat.
8. Remove the carpet hold down (3) at the rear wall (1).
9. Turn the carpet to the front from the rear to gain access to the side impact sensor which is located under the seat area.
10. Disconnect the side impact sensor harness connector (2).
11. Remove the screws (1) attaching the side impact sensor to the body rail.
12. Remove the side impact sensor from the vehicle.
INSTALLATION
1. Position the side impact sensor.
2. Install the bolts (1) attaching the side impact sensor to the body rail.
3. Connect the side impact sensor harness connector (2).
4. Replace the carpet (1) making sure it is fully pushed down into the floor of the vehicle.
5. Install the carpet hold down (3).
6. Install the front seats (1).
7. Install the front seat bolts (2) then install the plastic cover (3) on the seat track.
8. Install the rear seat bolts (1) then install the seat belt and bolt (2).
9. Install the door sill trim plate by pushing it straight down onto the clips firmly.
10. Install the ignition key.
11. Do not reconnect the battery negative cable at this time. The supplemental restraint system verification test procedure should be performed following service of any supplemental restraint system component.
