First Gear Synchronizer Enhancements

OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves installing a first gear synchronizer, seal and plug.

MODELS:

2004 (ZH) Crossfire

NOTE:
This bulletin applies to vehicles equipped with a manual transmission (sales code DED) with a serial number 716.64X through and including 716.67X, built on or before December 31, 2003 (MDH 1231XX) (Fig. 1).

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

The vehicle operator may experience transmission disengagement from first gear during normal acceleration.

DIAGNOSIS:





The condition may be difficult to duplicate. If the vehicle operator describes the Symptom/Condition and the transmission serial number is between 716.64X and 716.67X, perform the Repair Procedure (Fig. 1).

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

1. Replace the first gear synchro kit (p/n 05137639AA), input shaft seal (p/n 05099840AA), and the countershaft retaining bolt access plug (p/n 05096861AA. Refer to the service information available in TechCONNECT or the 2004 Crossfire service manual (publication no. 81-270-04036), page 21-368.
