Intake Manifold: Description and Operation

INTAKE MANIFOLD

DESCRIPTION

The intake manifold is a two-piece design and is made of a composite material (Fig. 116). The manifold attaches to the cylinder head with fasteners. The manifold's four tuned intake runners curve over the top of the cylinder head and connect to a plenum chamber. This design enhances low and mid-range torque and also provides less induction noise (rumble).

OPERATION
The intake manifold delivers air to the combustion chambers. This air allows the fuel delivered by the fuel injectors to ignite when the spark plugs fire.
