Steering - Moan/Groan Sound Turning at Idle

SUBJECT:
Moan/Groan Sound Heard At Idle
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves installing a revised power steering pressure line clip.
MODELS:
2005 - 2006 (LX) 300/Charger/Magnum
2006 (LE) 300/300 Touring (International Markets)
NOTE:
This bulletin applies to vehicle equipped with a 3.5L Engine (Sales Code EGG).
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Moan/Groan sound heard while turning the steering wheel right or left when the vehicle is at normal operating temperature and the engine is at idle speed.
DIAGNOSIS:
With the vehicle at normal operating temperature and the engine at idle speed (600 rpm), turn the steering wheel 90° right and left with the A/C on. Turn the A/C off and repeat turning the steering wheel, if the moan/groan sound is present with the A/C off perform the Repair Procedure. If the moan/groan sound is NOT present with the A/C OFF, this bulletin does not apply and further diagnosis is required.
PARTS REQUIRED:
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1. Use the procedures outlined in TechCONNECT 23-Body/Exterior/Belly Pan to remove the belly pan.
2. Locate the power steering lines and clip on the right side of the engine compartment, (Fig. 1).
3. Remove the original clip and screw from the power steering lines and discard them.
4. Install the revised power steering line clip, p/n 05189290AA, on the lines, bend the tabs on the retainers away from the attaching screw hole after assembling the clip onto the power steering lines, (Fig. 2).
5. Attach the power steering lines/clip using the screw packaged with the clip. Tighten the screw to 21.5 Nm (190 in. lbs.).
6. Use the procedures outlined in TechCONNECT 23-Body/Exterior/Belly Pan to install the belly pan.
