Hose-Pressure/Return

HOSE-PRESSURE/RETURN

REMOVAL

NOTE: Before proceeding, Refer to Steering/Service Precautions.

1. Siphon as much fluid as possible from the power steering fluid reservoir.
2. Raise and support the vehicle.
3. Drain the engine coolant.

4. Disconnect the radiator fan wiring connector (1).

5. Remove the two lower fan mounting screws (1).
6. Lower the vehicle.

7. Remove the grille from the front of the vehicle (1).
8. Remove hood-opening weather-strip from across radiator closure panel.

9. Remove the ambient temperature sensors (1, 2) from the radiator closure panel.

10. Remove the fasteners (1) securing the upper radiator closure panel in place, then remove the panel and lay it out of way.

11. Remove the two screws (1) fastening the upper radiator hose inlet neck (2) to the radiator, then separate the inlet neck from the radiator.
12. Lift the cooling module out of its lower mounts and carefully tip the top toward the front of the vehicle. DO NOT FORCE IT.

13. Remove the remaining four screws (1) fastening the radiator fan to the cooling module. Remove the fan.

14. Remove the clamp securing the return hose (3) to the pump reservoir (1), then remove the hose from the reservoir fitting. Cap off the hose end and reservoir fitting.
15. Remove the bolt securing the pressure hose (2) routing clamp to the engine.
16. Back out the tube nut (5) securing the pressure hose to the power steering pump (6) and remove the hose from the pump. Cap off the hose end and pump pressure port.
17. Raise the vehicle.

18. Remove the routing clip (2) from the pressure hose tube near the power steering gear (1).
19. Back out the tube nut (3) securing the fluid pressure hose to the power steering gear (1).
20. Remove the hose clamp (4) securing the return hose to the tube in the power steering gear outlet port. Slide the hose off the end of the tube.

21. Remove the hose clamp securing the return hose (from steering gear) (2) to the fitting on the internal cooler located within the radiator portion of the cooling module (1). Slide the hose off the fitting.

22. Remove the nuts (3) securing the charge air cooler hose (2) to the bolts in engine's structural collar.

23. Remove the bolts securing the pressure (4)/return (3) hose routing clamps to the engine's structural collar.
24. Remove the pressure/return hose assembly from the vehicle.

INSTALLATION
1. Using a lint free towel, wipe clean the open power steering hose ends and the power steering pump and gear ports. Replace any used O-rings with new. Lubricate the O-rings with power steering fluid.
2. Install the power steering pressure/return hose assembly into the engine compartment from below.

3. Attach the pressure/return hose (4/3) routing clamps to the engine's structural collar. Tighten the mounting bolts to 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.).

4. Attach the charge air cooler hose (2) to the bolts in the engine's structural collar. Tighten the nuts to 31 Nm (23 ft. lbs.).

5. Position a hose clamp onto end of the return hose (from steering gear) (2) far enough to clear the fitting on the internal cooler located within the radiator portion of the cooling module (1).
6. Slide the return hose (2) onto the internal cooler fitting. Install the hose clamp on the hose past the bead formed into the end of the fitting and secure in place.

7. Position a hose clamp (4) onto the end of the return hose (at steering gear) far enough to clear the tube in the steering gear (1) outlet port once installed.
8. Slide the return hose onto the tube extending from the power steering gear (1) outlet port. Install the hose clamp (4) on the hose past the bead formed into the end of the tube and secure in place.
9. Insert the end of the pressure hose into the inlet port on the power steering gear (1). Thread the pressure hose tube nut (3) into the inlet port, but DO NOT TIGHTEN AT THIS TIME.
10. Install the routing clip (2) up from the gear outlet tube onto the fluid pressure hose tube.
11. While making sure fluid pressure hose stays in the routing clip (4), parallel with the return hose, tighten the pressure hose tube nut (3) at the gear to 31 Nm (23 ft. lbs.).
12. lower the vehicle

13. Insert the end of the pressure hose into the pressure port on the power steering pump (6). Thread the pressure hose tube nut (5) into the power steering pump pressure port. DO NOT TIGHTEN AT THIS TIME.
14. Install the mounting bolt through the routing bracket, attaching the pressure hose (2) to the front of the engine. Tighten the mounting bolt to 8 Nm (70 inch lbs.).
15. Tighten the pressure hose tube nut (5) at the pump to 31 Nm (23 ft. lbs.).

16. Position the radiator fan on the cooling module and install the two upper and two side mounting screws (1). Tighten the screws to 6 Nm (55 inch lbs.).
17. Position the cooling module back into its lower mounts.

18. Clean and inspect or replace the upper radiator hose inlet neck O-ring, then install the inlet neck (2) to the radiator. Install the mounting screws.

19. Install the radiator closure panel and fasten (1) it in place.

20. Install the ambient temperature sensors (1, 2) on the radiator closure panel.
21. Install hood-opening weather-strip across radiator closure panel.

22. Install the grille (1) on the front of the vehicle.
23. Raise and support the vehicle.

24. Install the two remaining lower fan mounting screws (1). Tighten the screws to 6 Nm (55 inch lbs.).

25. Connect the radiator fan wiring connector (1).
26. Fill the cooling system.
27. Perform the POWER STEERING PUMP INITIAL OPERATION procedure to properly fill and bleed the power steering system.
28. Check for leaks.
