Hose-Pressure

HOSE-PRESSURE

REMOVAL

NOTE: Before proceeding, Refer to Steering/Service Precautions.

1. Siphon as much fluid as possible from the power steering fluid reservoir.
2. Raise and support the vehicle.

3. LHD - Back out the tube nut securing the pressure hose (4) to the gear. Pull the hose tube out of the gear and drain the fluid from the hose.

4. RHD - Back out the tube nut (2) securing the pressure hose (3) to the gear (5). Pull the hose tube out of the gear and drain the fluid from the hose.

5. Remove the bolts (2) securing the pressure hose (1) routing clamps to the engine's structural collar.

6. Remove the bolt securing the pressure hose (2) routing clamp to the front of the engine near the starter.

7. Remove the wheel mounting nuts (3), then the right front tire and wheel assembly (1).

8. Remove the one fastener (2) securing the wheel house splash shield (1) to the drive belt splash shield (3).

NOTE: Depending on application, it may be necessary to remove some fasteners securing the front fascia (1) to the body lower reinforcement in order to access drive belt splash shield forward fastener.

9. Remove the fastener (5) securing the drive belt splash shield (3) to the front suspension crossmember (6).
10. Remove the fasteners (4) securing the splash shield (3) to the body (2).
11. Remove the drive belt splash shield (3).
12. Remove the accessory drive-belt from the A/C compressor and power steering pump.

13. Disconnect the wiring connectors from the A/C compressor (1).
14. Remove the four bolts fastening the A/C compressor (1) to the engine, then move the compressor toward the center of the vehicle, allowing the compressor to settle in place.

15. From below, place a crowfoot wrench on a long extension onto the pressure hose tube nut (3) at the pump.
16. Place a shop towel between the crowfoot and the pump pulley (1) to avoid slipping and possibly damaging the pulley.

17. Unthread the tube nut from the pump (1).
18. Remove the power steering pressure hose from the vehicle.

INSTALLATION

CAUTION: Power steering fluid hoses must remain away from the exhaust system, driveshafts, vehicle components and any unfriendly surface that can possibly damage the hoses.

1. Using a lint free towel, wipe clean the open power steering hose end and the power steering pump port. Replace any used O-rings with new. Lubricate the O-ring with power steering fluid.

2. Install the power steering pressure hose into the engine compartment from the bottom. Guide the pump end of the hose up past the left side of the A/C compressor and insert the end of the pressure hose into the pump (1).
3. Start the mounting bolt through the routing bracket, loosely attaching the pressure hose (2) to the engine block.
4. By hand, thread the pressure hose tube nut into the pump (1).

5. Using a crowfoot wrench on a long extension with a torque wrench, tighten the pressure hose tube nut (from below) at the power steering pump to 31 Nm (23 ft. lbs.).

6. Install the four bolts fastening the A/C compressor (1) to the engine. Tighten the mounting bolts to 28 Nm (250 inch lbs.).
7. Install the A/C compressor wiring connectors.
8. Install the A/C drive belt.

9. Position the drive-belt splash shield (3) and install the fasteners (4) securing it to the body (2).
10. Install the fastener (5) securing the drive belt splash shield (3) to the front suspension crossmember (6).
11. If previously removed, install the fasteners securing the front fascia (1) to the body lower reinforcement.

12. Install the one fastener (2) securing the wheel house splash shield (1) to the drive belt splash shield (3).

13. Install the tire and wheel assembly (1).

14. Tighten the mounting bolt (previously left loose) securing the pressure hose and routing bracket to the engine block to 8 Nm (70 inch lbs.).

15. Attach the pressure hose (1) and routing brackets to the structural collar. Tighten the mounting bolts (2) to 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.).
16. Using a lint free towel, wipe clean the open power steering hose end and the power steering gear port. Replace any used O-rings with new. Lubricate the O-ring with power steering fluid.

CAUTION: Forward of the steering gear, the pressure hose routes between the front suspension crossmember and the driveshaft. When tightening the pressure hose tube nut to the steering gear, the pressure hose must be positioned (clocked) such that its final routing (after tightened) offers 4-10 mm clearance to the front suspension crossmember (measured at the pressure hose steel-to-rubber coupling). There should be a clocking donut (6) (foam sleeve) on the hose to preset this distance.

17. LHD - Attach the power steering fluid pressure hose (4) to its port on the power steering gear. While making sure the hose is not in contact with any vehicle components (see preceding caution), tighten the pressure hose tube nut at the gear to 31 Nm (23 ft. lbs.).

18. RHD - Attach the power steering fluid pressure hose (3) to its port on the power steering gear (5). While making sure the hose is not in contact with any vehicle components (see preceding caution), tighten the pressure hose tube nut at the gear to 31 Nm (23 ft. lbs.).
19. Lower the vehicle.
20. Perform the POWER STEERING PUMP INITIAL OPERATION procedure.
21. Check for leaks at all hose connections.
