Brake Rotor/Disc: Description and Operation

DESCRIPTION

FRONT ROTORS

There are two different size vented front brake rotors available depending on brake application. Vehicles with the brake sales code BRB and BRK (Disc/Drum combinations) and BRT (Disc/Disc combination) use standard size front brake rotors (1). Vehicles equipped with the brake sales code BR4 (Performance Disc/Disc combination) use heavier brake rotors (4). Although the same diameter, the BR4 front brake rotor is approximately 5 mm thicker at the pad contact area (3) than the standard front brake rotor (2). The BR4 brake rotors can be easily identified by the recessed machined area (5) near the hub center.

REAR ROTORS

There are two different size solid (non-vented) rear brake rotors available depending on brake application. Vehicles with the brake sales code BRT (Disc/Disc combination) use standard size rear brake rotors (1). Vehicles equipped with the brake sales code BR4 (Performance Disc/Disc combination) use heavier brake rotors (4). The BR4 rear brake rotor is approximately 3 mm thicker at the pad contact area (3) than the standard rear brake rotor (2). The BR4 brake rotors can be easily identified by the recessed machined area near the hub center (5).
