B1969
B1969-POWER LIFTGATE OPEN DIRECTION EXCESSIVE POSITION SENSOR COUNTS
For a complete wiring diagram Consult Diagrams/Electrical
- When Monitored:
During Power Liftgate opening cycle.
- Set Condition:
If the PLG Module detects that the Power Liftgate Motor has generated excessive pulses during a full power cycle, this code will set.
Diagnostic Test
1. DTC PRESENT
With the scan tool, record and erase DTC's.
Turn the ignition off, wait 10 seconds, then turn the ignition on.
Operate the Power Liftgate several times from stop to stop if possible.
With the scan tool, read ACTIVE DTCs.
Does the scan tool display B1969-POWER LIFTGATE OPEN DIRECTION EXCESSIVE POSITION SENSOR COUNTS?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors for an intermittent condition. Operate the liftgate several times and check for any binding conditions.
- PERFORM BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1. Body Verification Test
2. BINDING LIFTGATE
Examine the liftgate for proper alignment, worn or binding hinges, weak liftgate prop assembly, loose/hard weatherstrip, for wear or anything that would cause an obstruction to proper operation.
If necessary manually operate the power liftgate on a known good vehicle and notice the effort needed to open and close for comparison.
Were there any mechanical problems found?
Yes
- Repair accordingly.
- PERFORM BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1. Body Verification Test
No
- Go To 3
3. POWER LIFTGATE MODULE - POSITION SENSE OPEN
Operate the liftgate from the full closed position and put an obstacle in it's path to make it reverse.
Did the liftgate reverse back to the closed position?
Yes
- Go To 4
No
- Replace the Power Liftgate Module.
- PERFORM BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1. Body Verification Test
4. (Q901) LOGIC GROUND OPEN
Turn the ignition off.
Disconnect the Power Liftgate Drive Unit harness connector.
Measure the resistance between the (Z805) Ground and the (Q901) Logic Ground circuit in the Drive Unit harness connector.
Wiggle the harness and check for an intermittent open condition.
Is the resistance below 2.0 ohms?
Yes
- Go To 5
No
- Repair the (Q901) Logic Ground circuit for an open.
- PERFORM BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1. Body Verification Test
5. (Q51) LIFTGATE FULL OPEN SWITCH SENSE WIRE OPEN
Measure the resistance of the (Q51) Liftgate Full Open Switch Sense circuit between the PLG C1 harness connector and the Drive Unit harness connector.
Wiggle the wiring harness from the Power Liftgate Module to the Full Open Switch on the Power Liftgate Drive Unit assembly.
Is the resistance below 5.0 ohms?
No
- Repair the (Q51) Full Open Switch Sense circuit for an intermittent open.
- PERFORM BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1. Body Verification Test
Yes
- Go To 6
6. CHECK THE POWER LIFTGATE DRIVE UNIT
NOTE: DTC B1969 will set when the position sensor count is 475 or above in open direction. In a normally operating power liftgate system, the position sensor count for fully open is between 440 and 445. Fully closed normal count is 0.
Reconnect the Power Liftgate Drive Unit harness connector.
Turn the ignition on.
Attempt to power open the power liftgate.
Using the scan tool, check the power liftgate position sensor counts.
Is the power liftgate drive unit position sensor count above 475 with the power liftgate in the full open position, or if the liftgate is closed, is the position count above or below 0 counts?
Yes
- Replace the Liftgate Drive Unit.
- PERFORM BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1. Body Verification Test
No
- Replace the Power Liftgate Module.PERFORM BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1. Body Verification Test
