BACKUP LAMP OUTPUT SHORT-BCM

Diagnostic Test
1. INTERMITTENT CONDITION
Turn the ignition on. Engine OFF.
With the scan tool, clear all BCM DTC's.
Place the transmission in reverse.
With the scan tool, read the DTC information.
Does the scan tool read: Backup Lamp Output Short?
Yes
- Go To2
No
- The condition that caused the symptom is currently not present. Inspect the related wiring for a possible intermittent condition. Look for any chafed, pierced,pinched, or partially broken wires.
- Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1.Body Verification Test
2. BACKUP LAMP
Turn the ignition on. Engine OFF.
Place the transmission in reverse.
Using a 12-volt test light connected to ground, check the Backup Lamp Output circuit.
Does the test light illuminate brightly?
Yes
- Replace the Backup Lamp.
- Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1.Body Verification Test
No
- Go To3
3. (L1) BACKUP LAMP DRIVER CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND
Turn the ignition off.
Disconnect the Body Control Module C2 harness connector.
Disconnect both rear tail lamp harness connector.
Measure the resistance of the (L1) Backup Lamp Driver circuit and ground.
Is the resistance below 5.0 ohms?
Yes
- Repair the (L1) Backup Lamp Driver circuit for a short to ground.
- Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1.Body Verification Test
No
- Replace the Body Control Module.
- Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1.Body Verification Test
