StarSCAN(R) SOFTWARE LEVEL MUST BE AT RELEASE 9.05 OR HIGHER.

StarMOBILE DESKTOP CLIENT -OR- StarMOBILE STANDALONE MODE MAY ALSO BE USED TO PERFORM THE FLASH.

SUBJECT:

Flash: Decel Hunting/Bump/Oscillation Feeling And Automatic Transmission Shift Improvements

OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves selectively erasing and reprogramming the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).

MODELS:

2007 - 2009 (JS) Sebring/Avenger/Sebring Convertible

NOTE:
This Bulletin applies to models equipped with a 2.7L engine & 41TE automatic transmission (Sales Code EER with DFF) built before February 16, 2009 (MDH 0216XX).

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Some customers may experience a conditions that could be described as:

i. A surge feeling when they are coasting to a stop with their foot off the accelerator

ii. The transmission seems to be hunting for gear when they are coasting to a stop with their foot off the accelerator

iii. Oscillation feeling when they are coasting to a stop with their foot off the accelerator

These symptoms occur when the vehicle is at full lockup and the PCM detects a closed throttle. To correct this condition full lockup has been turned off when vehicle is in a decel mode.

The following Shift Improvements were also incorporated for the 2007 and 2008 model year vehicles:

i. 3 - 2 - 3 change mind shift bump

ii. 1 - 2 upshift Improvement

DIAGNOSIS:

Using a Scan Tool (StarSCAN(R)) with the appropriate Diagnostic Procedures available in TechCONNECT, verify all engine Systems are functioning as designed. If DTC's are present record them on the repair order and repair as necessary before proceeding further with this bulletin.

If the above symptom/condition is experienced or can be verified, perform the Repair Procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE - USING THE INTERNET TO RETRIEVE THE FLASH FILE:

NOTE:
If this flash process is interrupted/aborted, the flash should be restarted.

1. Reprogram the PCM with the latest software. Follow the detailed service procedures available in DealerCONNECT/TechCONNECT, Refer To Group 8 - Electrical > Electronic Control Modules > Module - Powertrain Control > Standard Procedures > PCM/ECM Programming - Gas.

a. Clear the Variable Line Pressure (VLP) Counters, found in the StarSCAN(R) Misc Function Menu. VLP Clear Counters must be completed on all models.

b. Clear any DTC's that may have been set in other modules due to reprogramming.

c. Perform the Quick Learn function, found in the StarSCAN(R) Misc Function Menu.

2. Type the necessary information on the "Authorized Modification Label and attach it near the VECI label.
