Sunroof Flutter Sound While Driving
OVERVIEW:
The sunroof frame may have had inadequate adhesive installed. After a period of time, (usually 2 or 3 months), sunroof frame may separate from the roof panel. This bulletin involves removing the headliner and applying two different adhesives to the sunroof reinforcement frame.

2008 (RI) Town & Country/Grand Voyager
NOTE:
This bulletin applies to vehicles equipped with a sunroof (sales code GWA) built before February 01, 2008 (MDH0201XX).
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The customer may experience a ticking or flutter sound in the area around or behind the sunroof. During the manufacturing process, the structural adhesives used on the sunroof reinforcement frame may have been inadequate which may cause it to separate.
DIAGNOSIS:
If the customer experiences the Symptom/Condition, the technician can lightly tap (with palm of bare hand) on the roof about 2' behind the rear outside corners of the sunroof in an attempt to duplicate the sound. If customer describes the Symptom/Condition or the sound can be duplicated perform the Repair Procedure.
PARTS REQUIRED:
NOTE:
Two different adhesives are used. One area of concern requires firm adhesion while the remaining (majority) of the area requires the adhesive to remain flexible to prevent buckling (wavy look) or oil canning (popping sound) of the roof panel.
SPECIAL TOOLS/EQUIPMENT REQUIRED:
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1. Remove the headliner. Refer to the detailed removal procedures available in DealerCONNECT > TechCONNECT under: Service Info tab > 23 - Body > Interior > Headliner > Removal.
NOTE:
Purge a small amount of material from dispenser before installing mixing tip per manufactures instructions. This will ensure all air pockets are removed from dispenser tubes.
NOTE:
Cover interior of vehicle to ensure it remains clean.
2. Install 2 - part urethane structural adhesive p/n 05017148AA or 05017147AA in the area described in (Fig 1) and (Fig 2).
NOTE:
To ensure the tracks of the sunroof do not become contaminated with sound deadener material, cut a 5" X 12" piece of card stock to place on track while installing material.
NOTE:
Purge a small amount of material from dispenser before installing mixing tip per manufactures instructions. This will ensure all air pockets are removed from dispenser tubes.
3. Install sound deadener, p/n KT13523 in the areas described in (Fig. 3) and (Fig. 4).
NOTE:
Be sure to install adhesive along the entire edge as described in Fig. 2 including around the corner.
4. Let the adhesive "skin over" for about 20 minutes before installing headliner.
5. Install headliner. Refer to the detailed installation procedures available in DealerCONNECT > TechCONNECT under: Service Info tab > 23 - Body > Interior > Headliner > Installation.
