Interior - Integrated Child Seat Won't Stow Properly

Integrated Child Seat Does Not Properly Stow In The Bench Seat Back

OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves replacing the child seat foam inserts with new, wider foam pieces.

MODELS:

2008 (RI) Town & Country/Grand Caravan

NOTE:
This Bulletin applies to sales codes CYV and models built before May 1, 2008 (MDH0501XX).

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

Some customers may experience difficulty returning the integrated child safety seat into the stowed position.

DIAGNOSIS:

If the customer describes the Symptom/Condition, perform the Repair Procedure.





PARTS REQUIRED:

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

NOTE:

1. Fold bench seat back flat and remove the seat back cover.





2. Disengage the 2 plastic J retainers from the wire on each seat module (Fig 1).





3. Disengage the plastic J retainer from the back - retainer is sewn into the cover and is a two piece plastic retainer (Fig. 2).

4. Lift seat back to the upright position and undo buckles on both seats.





5. Lift the child seat material from the velcro and pull the buckles through the slit in the material for both seats (Fig. 3).





6. Pull trim and foam assembly from plastic base and pull seat buckle through slit in trim (Fig. 4).





7. Note the position of the two foam pieces inside the seat trim and remove them. A strip of velcro is sewn to the inside of the trim piece to retain the foam in position (Fig. 5).

8. Remove and discard any velcro that may be left behind from the old foam piece.

9. Install the new foam pieces in each seat trim. Ensure that trim and foam is tucked down the side all the way during re-assembly.





10. Install the trim and foam assembly by pulling it down over the plastic base of each seat and pull seat buckle through slit in trim on each seat (Fig. 6).

11. Pull flap at the bottom through from the back of the seat.





12. Lift the child seat material and push the buckle through the slit in the child seat material on each seat (Fig. 7).

13. Pull the flap out from the back of each seat and then fold bench seat back down.





14. Engage the two piece plastic J retainer each seat (Fig. 8).





15. Engage the 2 white plastic J retainers on the wire on each seat module (Fig. 9).

16. Install the seat back cover.

17. Return the seat back to the upright position.
