A/C Compressor - Removal







3.3L/3.8L ENGINES

WARNING: Refer to the applicable warnings and cautions for this system before performing the following operation Warning and Caution. Failure to follow the warnings and cautions may result in serious or fatal injury.

NOTE: The A/C compressor may be removed and repositioned without discharging the refrigerant system or disconnecting the refrigerant lines.





1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
2. Recover the refrigerant from the refrigerant systemRefrigerant System Recovery.
3. Remove the nuts (2 and 4) that secure the A/C discharge line (1) and the A/C suction line (5) to the A/C compressor (3).
4. Disconnect the A/C discharge and suction lines from the A/C compressor and remove and discard the O-ring seals and gaskets




5. Raise and support the vehicle.
6. Remove the splash shield from the right side frame rail.
7. Remove the accessory drive beltAccessory Drive Belt - Removal.
8. Disconnect the wire harness connector (1) from the A/C compressor (7).
9. Remove the one bolt (2) and three nuts (5 and 6) that secure the A/C compressor to the engine.

CAUTION: A stud with integral spacer (4) is used at the lower rear of the A/C compressor. Always use the fastener designed for this location. Failure to reinstall the stud with spacer will cause serious compressor and accessory drive damage.

10. Remove the A/C compressor from the engine compartment. Remove the two studs (3) and the spacer stud (4) as necessary.
11. Install plugs in, or tape over the opened refrigerant line fittings and compressor ports.
