Front Air Distribution Housing Removal
HOUSING-AIR DISTRIBUTION
WARNING: Disable the airbag system before attempting any steering wheel, steering column, or instrument panel component diagnosis or service. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery (ground) cable, then wait two minutes for the airbag system capacitor to discharge before performing further diagnosis or service. This is the only sure way to disable the airbag system. Failure to take the proper precautions may result in accidental airbag deployment and possible serious or fatal injury. WARNING: Refer to the applicable warnings and cautions for this system before performing the following operation Warning and Caution. Failure to follow the warnings and cautions may result in serious or fatal injury.
WARNING: The heater core tubes are not serviced separately from the heater core. The heater core tubes should not be repositioned, loosened or removed from the heater core. Failure to follow this warning may result in a coolant leak and possible serious or fatal injury.
NOTE: LHD model shown in illustrations. RHD model similar.
1. Remove the HVAC housing and place it on a workbench.
2. Remove the A/C expansion valveRemoval.
NOTE: If the foam seal from the front of the HVAC housing is deformed or damaged, it must be replaced.
3. Remove the foam seal (1) from the front of the HVAC housing (2).
4. Remove the two screws (4) that secure the heater core cover (5) to the driver side of the air distribution housing (3).
5. Rotate and tilt the heater core cover as necessary to disengage the retaining tab that secures the front of the cover to the HVAC housing and remove the cover.
NOTE: If the foam seal around the heater core is deformed or damaged, it must be replaced.
6. Carefully pull the heater core (1) out of the driver side of the air distribution housing (2).
7. Disconnect the HVAC wire harness (4) from the mode and blend door actuators (3).
8. Remove the three screws (1) that secure the top of the air distribution housing (2) to the rear of the HVAC housing (5).
NOTE: If the foam seal on top of the air distribution housing is deformed or damaged, it must be replaced.
9. Tilt the top of the air distribution housing rearward and disengage the two retaining tabs that secure the bottom of the air distribution housing to the HVAC housing and remove the air distribution housing.
10. If required, remove the mode and blend door actuators from the air distribution housing. Service and Repair
