Heater Pad - Removal

REMOVAL

WARNING:
Disable the airbag system before attempting any component diagnosis or service of the front seats, when equipped with front seat air bags. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery (ground) cable, then wait two minutes for the airbag system capacitor to discharge before performing further diagnosis or service. This is the only sure way to disable the airbag system. Failure to follow these instructions may result in accidental airbag deployment and possible serious or fatal injury.

CAUTION:
On vehicles equipped with heated cloth seats, the heating elements are an integral part of the seat back cushion and cover. If the seat back heating element is damaged or inoperative, the entire seat back cushion, heating element and cover must be replaced as an assembly.

NOTE:
On all models, the front passenger seat bottom contains an Occupant Detection Sensor (ODS) to provide information to the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC).

NOTE:
Typical seat cushion and heated seat element shown.

1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.

2. Remove the appropriate seat bottom or seat back cushion and place it on a workbench.

3. Remove the cover from the cushion (3).

4. Make note of the installed location of the heated seat element (2) on the cushion (1).

5. Remove the heated seat element from the foam cushion by carefully peeling the element away from the cushion. Be careful not to remove excessive foam from the cushion.

6. When servicing the front passenger seat bottom cushion, if required, remove the Occupant Detection Sensor (ODS) from the cushion and discard the sensor Occupant Detection Sensor - Removal.
