P0560

Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P0560 System Voltage Malfunction

Circuit Description
The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) monitors the ignition voltage on circuit 639. A system voltage DTC will set whenever it detects a low voltage, a high voltage for a long time, or a high voltage for a short time.

Conditions for Setting the DTC
- The engine speed is greater than 1300 RPM.
- The ignition voltage is less than 10 volts at 150°C or less than 7.3 volts at -40°C.
- The ignition voltage is greater than 19 volts for 10 seconds or greater than 16 volts for 109 minutes.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets
- The PCM will record operating conditions at the time the diagnostic fails. This information will be stored in the Failure Records buffer.
- Freeze shift adapts from being updated.
- PCM inhibits TCC engagement.
- PCM commands maximum line pressure.
- PCM commands soft landing to 2nd gear (low volts).
- PCM commands hard landing to 2nd gear (high volts).
- DTC P0560 will be stored in the PCM memory.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC
- A history DTC will clear after 40 consecutive warm up cycles without a fault.
- History DTCs can be cleared by using a scan tool.

Diagnostic Aids
- If the DTC sets when a accessory is operated, check for a poor connection or excessive current draw.
- Inspect the wiring for poor electrical connections at the PCM and at the 20-way connector. Look for possible bent, backed out, deformed or damaged terminals. Check for weak terminal tension as well. Also, check for chafed wires that could short to bare metal or other wiring. Inspect for broken wires inside the insulation.
- If diagnosing for a possible intermittent short or open condition, move or massage the wiring harness while observing test equipment for a change.

Test Description
The number(s) below refer to the step number(s) on the Diagnostic Table.
4. Checks if the generator is malfunctioning under load conditions.
5. Checks ignition feed circuit 639 for excessive resistance. An open circuit will cause a no start condition.
6. The replacement PCM must be reprogrammed. Refer to Powertrain Management.
