SYMPTOM/CONDITION

Noise in valve train.

DIAGNOSIS

Remove valve cover and inspect rocker arms for breakage in the push rod area. The push rod may have penetrated the rocker arm.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

When a rocker arm is found to have failed in the above manner in the subject model engines, it is necessary to replace all 16 rocker arms and inspect the push rods.

1. Remove valve covers.

2. Remove all rocker arms and replace with new ones.

3. Inspect push rods and replace as necessary.

4. Reinstall rocker shafts and torque screws to 25 foot pounds (34 N-m).

5. Replace valve cover gaskets and reinstall valve covers. Tighten valve cover screws to 80 inch pounds (9 N-m).
