Cruise Control Switch: Service and Repair

1983-84 FRONT WHEEL DRIVE MODELS EXC. MINI-VANS/WAGONS

1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then remove lower steering column cover.
2. Remove wiring harness retainer cover from under dashboard.
3. Disconnect speed control switch electrical connector from harness connector.
4. On models with tilt column, remove terminals from insulator with tool C-4135.
5. Remove wiper control knob from end lever, then two speed control switch to column attaching screws.
6. Remove steering wheel.
7. On models with tilt column, attach a flexible guide wire to lower end of speed control switch harness.
8. On models with standard column, remove two screws retaining upper steering column lock cover, then the cover.
9. Remove switch and harness from steering column. On models with tilt column, pull wires through lock housing between lock plate and side of housing.
10. Reverse procedure to install. For standard steering column, insert harness connector through turn signal lever opening in column and pull down and out lower end. For tilt column, insert harness wires through turn signal lever opening in column and pull upward through upper housing.
