Electric Fuel Pump

1. Depressurize fuel system as follows:
a. Loosen gas cap to release fuel tank pressure.
b. On 4-153 engines, disconnect electrical connector from fuel injector. On V6-181 engines, disconnect electrical connector from any fuel injector.
c. On all engines, using a jumper wire, ground one injector terminal.
d. Connect another jumper wire between the remaining injector terminal and battery positive terminal. Do not leave injector connected to battery positive terminal for more than 10 seconds.
e. Remove jumper wires.
2. Raise and support vehicle, then drain fuel tank.
3. Remove bolts attaching filler tube to inner and outer quarter panel.
4. Disconnect electrical connectors and fuel lines from fuel tank, then position a suitable jack under fuel tank.
5. Remove fuel tank attaching bolts, then lower tank slightly and disconnect vapor separator hose and lower tank.
6. Using a hammer and non-metallic punch, tap lock ring counterclockwise to release pump.
7. Pull fuel pump assembly partially out of tank, until return line hose visible, then disconnect hose.
8. Remove fuel pump assembly from tank.
9. Reverse procedure to install.
