3C Brake Switch Input Circuit

1. Turn the ignition switch Off.
2. Disconnect the 60-way connector.
3. Connect an ohmmeter between the D-40 white/pink wire in cavity No. 29 of the 60-way connector and ground.
4. Press down on brake pedal and then release.
5. If ohmmeter shows an open when brake pedal is pressed down and continuity when it's released, replace the SMEC.
CAUTION: Before replacing the SMEC, check the D-40 terminal in cavity No. 29 of the 60-way connector to make sure it is not damaged causing a poor connection.
6. If ohmmeter does not read as is in step 5, check the D-40 white/pink wire of cavity No. 29 of the 60-way connector for an open circuit through the stop lamp bulb circuit to ground.
