3E Park/Neutral Switch Input Circuit to ECM


1. Turn ignition switch Off and disconnect the 60-way connector.
2. Connect an ohmmeter to the S-4 brown/yellow wire in cavity No. 30 of the 60-way connector and ground.
3. Disconnect the battery quick disconnect and turn the ignition switch to the Run position.
4. Put gear selector in park, reverse, neutral, and drive and observe position.
5. If ohmmeter shows continuity in all positions of the gear selector, check the S-4 brown/yellow wire of cavity No. 30 for a short to ground or check for a bad safety neutral switch.
6. If ohmmeter shows no continuity in all positions of the gear selector, repair S-4 brown/yellow wire of cavity No. 30 for an open circuit to the safety neutral switch.
7. If ohmmeter reads: Park-continuity, Reverse-open, Neutral-continuity, Drive-open, replace the SMEC.
NOTE: Before replacing the SMEC, check the S-4 terminal in cavity No. 30 of the 60-way connector to make sure it is not damaged causing a poor connection.
