This bulletin covers a revised procedure for the installation of the cam shaft(s) timing belt on the 46G (1.6L DOHC) engine. Step (4) on Page 9-120 of the 1989 Colt/Summit/Colt Series 2000 Service Manual (81-270-9011) has been revised to simplify the timing belt installation.
Please mark out Step (4) on Page 9-120 as shown in Figure 1 and reference this TSB 09-03-89.

(4) (1) Install the timing belt around the intake camshaft sprocket and retain it at indicated position with a spring clip (binder clip).
(2) Install the timing belt around the exhaust sprocket, aligning the timing marks with the cylinder head top surface using two wrenches.
(3) Retain the belt at indicated position with a spring clip.
(4) Install the timing belt around the idler pulley, oil pump sprocket, crankshaft sprocket and the tensioner pulley in the order shown.
(5) Remove the two spring clips.
(6) Lift up the tensioner pulley in the direction of arrow and tighten the center bolt.
(7) Check to see that all timing marks are lined up.
(8) Rotate the crankshaft a quarter turn counterclockwise. Then, turn it clockwise until the timing marks are lined up again.
