SYMPTOM/CONDITION


In the event that water is found under the left side of the rear seat or if the left rear corner of the carpet is wet, use the following procedure to insure proper sealing of the left rear quarter glass.

NOTE: PROCURE URETHANE LOCALLY DUE TO SHELF LIFE.

REPAIR PROCEDURE


1. Measure the gap between the exterior glass molding and the sheet metal 10 mm (0.394 in.) rearward of front edge of the molding (Figure 1). If the gap exceeds 1.5 mm (0.059 in.) a leak is likely and repair is required.

2. Using a cartridge of 3M Super Fast Urethane, trim the nozzle end on an angle with an opening of 1.9 mm (0.078 in.). Heat the nozzle and flatten it to 3-to-4 mm (0.125-0.188 in.) as shown in Figure 2.

3. Clean and dry the area being sealed and apply masking tape on the body sheet metal and on the molding (Figure 3). Squeegee the edges to prevent sealant from flowing under the tape.

4. Starting at either end of the taped area, position the nozzle of the caulking tube as deeply into the gap as possible without distorting the molding and apply urethane in the horizontal and vertical gaps (Figure 4).

5. Press the molding into position to squeeze out the excess urethane and carefully remove the masking tape.

6. Apply pressure to the molding to hold it in the proper position by using reinforced strapping tape to hold 15 mm (0.6 in.) diameter rubber hose along the horizontal edge of the glass (Figure 5).
7. The urethane will take approximately 5 hours to cure depending on the ambient temperature and humidity. When the urethane has cured completely, remove the strapping tape and hose. Water test the vehicle to insure a proper repair.
